Final Bluesky Post
I temporarily reactivated my Bluesky account today, January 26, 2025, to post one final thread addressed to my U.S. House Representative. The thread follows, the contents of which to be edited for email that will also be sent to my U.S. House Rep.
Dear [Rep Sharice Davids' Bluesky handle]: Although I don't believe you currently serve as a member of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce to which H.R. 238 (introduced on 01/07/2025) has been referred, you are my U.S. Representative, and I am writing to you regarding H.R. 238. 1/7

During the last few months of '24, I happen to have initiated What-if conversations with various people about recourse options, or lack thereof, a parent/spouse would have if their loved one died due to a misdiagnosis or incorrect prescription being ordered by Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). 2/7
It appears my What-if scenarios & discussions may now carry immediate weight, given H.R. 238 has been introduced. I hope your colleagues in the House Committee on Energy & Commerce consider the important, key aspect of the What-if scenario I placed before family, friends & others in late '24. 3/7
Namely, my question is this: What specific & undeniable rights and what well-defined options for recourse will patients, or their survivors, receive whenever Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) causes harm, injury or death by misdiagnosing an illness or prescribes the wrong medicine (etc.)? 4/7
To be honest, I'd planned to use this What-if scenario & hypothetical as plot/theme for a fictional story. However, given H.R. 238 is an introduced Bill that has been referred to Committee, I decided my question/concern better immediately shared outside the realm of fictional exploration. 5/7
Feel free to share my concern with members of the House as you see fit. I am CCing [Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Bluesky handle] as I understand she is a member of the Committee to which H.R. 238 has been referred. 6/7
I admit I do harbor concerns regarding the rapid (development & marketing) push of A.I. onto the public. However, I'm not a 100%-against-AI opponent either and see instances in public & private life & enterprise where using such tech can make sense, if built & introduced fairly & properly. 7/7 fin
